Little Flamingo's Little World

Once upon a time there was a bird called Flamingo. She had a baby bird that she named Little Flamingo, or Flaminguito. By the time Flaminguito turned one year old, she was doing a lot of funny things that Flamingo wanted to share with all the other birds in her flock. When a friend from the monkey exhibit at the Zoo told her about a blog, she decided to start one of her own...then two little baby blue birds came along and she added their antics to her blog, too...this is Flaminguito's blog.

A Pool Party at Auntie W.'s house!
But the only ones in the pool are Daddy and I!

That's okay, we had a blast anyway!

Cousin Lil' A. got tired of watching us and headed back in.

Then she got just plain tired and went to cuddle up with Cousin Big A.

I love those lazy days of summer!

Hmmm...do I really want to get wet today?

With a little encouragement from Mommy Bird, yes, I do!

I love new ways to cool off on hot days!

We should build one of these at home, Daddy!

Sometimes, it takes a few tries to get a perfect picture. Here, Baby Bird and Cousin Lil' A. were sitting together, so Cousin C. came to join them for a picture.

But Cousin Lil' A. was done before the photographer was finished...

A little while and a lot of coaxing later, all four cousins teamed up for another shot, the photographer got one chance before they scrambled away again, like normal little chicks do, so this is what we got.

Baby bird gets a pet.

One day, Flaminguito found a butterfly/moth with a broken wing, so she made him a nice little habitat and named him Max and checked on him first thing every morning.

She fed Max yummy foods, like raspberries from her garden, and gave him water to drink. She thought it was fun to watch his tongue slurp up the water and food.

He seemed to think it was fun to eat the water and drink the food...he even liked the games she played with him, like hide-and-seek (until she "hid" him under his new home and crushed one of his legs, Max didn't like that).

But Flaminguito still loved Max, so she held him in her hands and let him climb onto her arm...

Until he climbed too far, he'd reached her elbow and that was too close for Flaminguito, so she decided she'd had enough of Max and she let him go.

The End.

Sometimes when I'm fast asleep, I dream of wonderful things...

Like smoked tomatoes and peppers fresh from the garden...

I dream of the lovely foods they will turn into and can almost smell the goodness...

And other times, I dream that I'm just plain cute, ready for my next outing with Mommy Bird.

On a family trip to the museum at The Dalles, Oregon, I got to be a pioneer...
Here, I'm warming up by the old stove...

I also got to be an archaeologist and excavate for buried treasures,

And build my own dugout canoe...what do you think? It took me a little while to get it perfected, but here I am standing inside it. Just like Meriwither Lewis and William Clark (well, sort of)!

Of course, my canoe was a bit low to the water, so I climbed abouard this boat to watch for enemies' approaching, I didn't see any, so I continued playing.

CANOEING LESSONS FROM PAPA

Canoeing Lesson #1: Always keep your paddle in the water.

Canoeing Lesson #2: Know how far your boat can lean (all the way to the gunwales!)

Canoeing Lesson #3: Always hold both gunwales when someone else is exiting the canoe (and be sure to smile).

Canoeing Lesson #4: Look really desperate, and your captain might take you for another ride, particularly if your are his cute grand-birdie.

I got to go to a few weddings this summer, but this was was extra-special, I got to dance with the groom...
but I had to wait for the beautiful bride to finish dancing with him first before I could get my turn...

as soon as she was done, I brought him $1 and asked if he'd dance with me, I was the first girl to get a dance!
I thought this was a funny picture of a friend's Daddy using her chupete, I danced with this baby a lot, she's 11 months old.

I finally got some quiet time with Daddy around 10:30, we were both tired, so went to rest with Baby.

My 1st Summer Camp Experience...

This summer, I went to Camp Wilani, a neat little place nestled in the woodlands of Veneta, Oregon, where my Mommy grew up going. We went to help my Uncle Gecko with a 1/2 week of mini-camp, I was the youngest camper there...but I think I got to have the most fun!I went for my first horseback rides...

helped Mommy lead arts 'n crafts (with a lot of help from Mama and A LOT of glue!)

I even got to join the other campers at the dining hall, but I usually couldn't wait 'till prayer was over to start eating.
Every night, we went to Camp Fire to sing songs, this was a repeat-after-me song, so I was repeating, and loving every minute of it!
